Laura was born and raised on Galveston Island. After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with High Honors in History, she taught 8th grade United States History at a local junior high school for two years. Following this rewarding experience, she attended South Texas College of Law in Houston, where she participated and earned recognition in its highly respected advocacy program.

Before joining Mills Shirley as an Associate in 2010, Laura worked for the firm as a law clerk throughout her third year of law school. At present, she is a member of the firm's litigation section.
